Question to ornate breeders

Paul21 Nov 03, 2004 02:22 PM

Hello,
I have a two year old pair, male is 10.5in 144g the female is 8in 68g. I also have a 1 year old pair, male is 9in 72g the female is 9in 92g. Each pair is kept in a 8'x4' pen so they are paired year round.

I was going to breed them this summer and was wondering if you guys thought I should switch females? I am hesitant to do this because I have had them paired since they were hatchlings and they are bonded perfectly. Has anyone bred a male to a larger female and/or a female to a significantly larger male?

I am not an ornate breeder but I doubt you will get any breeding activity as they seem to young and too small to be sexually mature.

The larger 144g 2 year old male might be mature enough after brumation this winter to breed but I doubt any of the others would be so swapping them would be a moot point.

Probably another year or two before you can succesfully breed them and by that time they will have gotten bigger so you won't have to worry about splitting up the established pairs.

Just have to wait for the cute babies
