Too much or not enough for baby beardie?

mcompton1973 Jun 29, 2003 11:55 PM

I've been feeding my baby beardie who is about 3mos old 6-7 small crickets twice a day and romaine lettuce at night. I usually give the lettuce before the crickets for her dinner and let her eat about 1/2 of that before crickets. She always acts like she's still hungry but she is growing like a weed and is currently in mid-shed. I was just wondering if this is the right amount of food for her. I don't want to overfeed or underfeed, but she seems to be growing very fast so I'm hoping she isn't getting too much and growing faster than she should. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Give her as much as she will eat in 15 minutes of the crickets and fresh greens/veggie all day. Ours at the same age eat 1/8 -1/4 cup salad (mustard greens, collard greens, dandelions, kale, chard, green beans, snowpeas, carrots and squash) then put away approximatley 50-70 appropriate size crickets a day til close to a year then they taper off or stop eating the crickets and have a few superworms a few times a week.

I have never seen an overweight baby, they use it all in growing.

they can't grow "too" fast.....they will grow appropriately if fed appropriately.....my dragons of that age also eat the approximate amounts CheriS stated.....some a little less and some even more than that.

Beardies eat a lot and you will save a ton of money ordering crickets off the internet rather then a $1.00 for 12 at a pet store. You can get 1000 crickets for $9 plus shipping from www.reptilefood.com.

Yeah and pet stores keep their crickets poorly alot of the time. So they aren't as nutritious.
