new to emerald tree boa

kamakiri Nov 03, 2004 05:24 PM

hello. currently i have a few kenyans and hoping to obtain some rosys in 2005. i was contimplating the idea of a larger snake and the thought of emerald tree boas came to mind. i hear they can be a little mean but that is said about alot of very tame snakes. i would just like some helpful tips with their husbandry and what kinds of cages suit them best(also where to get them). thank you for your time i appreciate it.

when you see your ETB hanging from a branch like this at night, do not stick your hand inside no matter how tame (LOL)...
nothing compares to ETBs...do your research well and most importantly buy only CBB from a reputable breeder who provides ongoing assistance if you want the best chance of avoiding expensive problems...

thank you. i have every intention upon buying captive bred ETB's. i actually was looking at a large snake for a breeding project and this one happened to catch my eye, on top of the fact that its a very beautiful snake that i have not seen much of over the years makes it even more appealing.

i had a question regarding the caging of these animals. i have been reading about BARR cages for arboreal snakes but cant seem to find a site where they are sold. could anyone point me into the right direction on this? also MD custom caging has an 18x18x22 acrylic cage for $185 is this just as good?
thanks in advance

Both Doug Barr and Paul August are great guys who make great cages.....

I agree, Paul August has done alot of cages for me exactly to my specifications and his work has only gotten better in time.

The Barrs also have great enclosures, in fact I'm ordering some more from them this weekend for growing babies. The Barrs website is www.herpcages.com

good luck
Danny
