when do expect the first clutch to hatch??????good luck....billy

hmmmm... that's a good question. Being that there is no literature available(to my knowledge) from successful macraei breeders, I have no sure way of knowing what to expect for their incubation period. However, I would guess that, being so similar to other members of the prasinus complex, their incubation periods would be comparible to V. prasinus or V. beccari, where incubation periods have ranged from 150 to 210 days... Right now, I believe that I am around the 150-5 day mark. So, hopefully, pretty soon.... This suspense is killing me!!!! I don't know how people can put up with the 300 day incubation of some species like mertens, etc.....

Cheers Billy, take it easy..how's the building coming along?

the new buiding isn't doing anything right now...the slab prep is almost done...i'm finishing a house that should close on the 11th...thats where the money is coming from...so we will see...then i have to rebuild a house i have on main street while starting another house for someone else...the weather is getting real cold up here fast...it should all go down...if it does your blue trees look neat to me... i'm only an hour and a half flight right into our town from you...so this clutch or next ....it will be what i can afford and what your willing to part with....good luck....billy

You see Rope, that's why you need to leave flexability and room into your buidling plans. You will always be interested in other projects, big or small. So take that into consideration as you build. Don't paint yourself into a corner. Good luck.

but is there a 12 Step program for lizard voyeurs???!!! seriously, love the photos. Can't wait for pics of little blue tree thingies. Hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer.

What an accomplishment! Hopefully you can do the same with your Black Trees. Is this the first monitor you have bred?

Thanks, and best of luck.

Howard.

Hi howard,

I have yet to successfully hatch out any monitors as of yet, hopefully my first clutch of blues will change that within a month or so. This is the third time my pair of blues have copulated this year, so hopefully this mating will lead to a third clutch of eggs from them this year.

I had a fiasco a couple of months ago, with two clutches of kimberly rock monitor eggs dying full term in the egg- fully developed hatchlings, never emerged...

I also got eggs from my V. tristis orientalis- three clutches, but they were all bad by the time I dug them up...

So, this year has been a bummer so far with monitor eggs, hopefully I can get things right sooner or later..

Take care, best of luck with your beccari as well... cheers

If you don't mind I would love to see more pics of the enclosures you are using for your tree monitors. Including the nesting options and heat sources. Also how big are the cages?
