Switching mangroves to rodents

jono Nov 03, 2004 08:13 PM

Hi all:

I have an imported sub-adult mangrove. Have had it for about 4 months. Very well aclimated, feeds like crazy on fish, frogs, basically anything cold blooded. Anybody have tips or advice on getting him interested in warm-blooded prey? I've tried scenting, multiple small prey items, large prey items, all the "usual" suspects. His fecals are clean now, and I'm coincerned about him picking up new bugs from frog prey. Likewise, feeder fish just don't have much nutritional value. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

That can be a tough nut to crack. Personally I never had luck with scenting or any of that with Mangroves. Where I did succeed was by force feeding them nothing but rodents (enough to keep them alive) till they got the idea.

Not the best method (it can take months), but the end result was allways a switch.
