eye infection...

trep Nov 03, 2004 09:27 PM

Hello Hello..
My dragon is suffering from a swollen eye. I didnt think much of this at first. But today it has gotten pretty bad. His left eye is shut, and only when i touch him does he open it. I have read that an eye infection can be a symptom of vitamin A deficiency, but i know that is not the case. Are there any other reasons for an eye infection? How should i try to treat him.....before taking him to the vet?

Remove any sand or loose substrate from the cage. Take your dragon to the vet first thing in the morning. I certainly don't want to recommend any treatment for this as I have no ideal what is wrong with the eye. It could be an infection, a bit of sand/other debris in the eye and irritating it, an injury or vitamine deficiency. In all cases, vet inspection and treatment is necessary.

I have had a dragon in that condition and you really should take him to the vet. It didn't cost that much as medicine for reptiles is quite inexpensive. I had to give my dragon an antibiotic for seven days and it was fine. My vet didn't see any reason for me to change substrate nor did she see any reason for additional supplements. I hope this helps, and don't feel like you did something wrong, you probably didn't. These things happen all the time. Take care
