DID THE NYS BAN PASS OR NOT!

deadlyelapid Nov 03, 2004 11:01 PM

Hello, I would like to know if this bill was passed or not! If so is there any other permit or license in which one could apply for the possesion of hots. I have been keeping and breeding hots for years and have always kept pretty much to myself. I have always followed the law in terms of having all the necessary permits and proper housing facilities and being more than highly responsible. I find it disgusting that such a law could be passed based on very little evidence by uneducated politicians which should be focusing on true crime such as drugs, gangbanging and other much more important issues. Anyway I would like to know of any licenses that can be acquired because I will not get rid of my pets and they will have to pry them from my dead cold hands! Sincerely, Tony Baez.

Apparently, you have until Jan 1st to purchase snakes. After that, no snakes can be bred or bought. You can keep the snakes you have until they die, then no more. As far as renewal goes for permits, I don't think anyone knows for sure. There are a few
in here that can explain a little better. Matt H., wanna go a little deeper?

TJP may be referring to the document that listed the bill's history through the house and assembly (http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A02684). It does not state whether or not the governor has signed it. Some who read it may misinterpret the effective date at the bottom of the page as the bill's signature.

...that date would only be effective IF the Governor signs it, AND assuming DEC had a permit system in place with all the necessary regs. Most likely, they will take a while, very similar to the Venomous Interim Licenses which have been in place for 7 years now.....basically, it became a "IT AIN'T Broke, why whould we try to fix it" license. DEC's attitude towards hots haven't changed....only NY Politicians.

The simple answer would be to 'Keep the Snakes, Get Rid of the Politicians' Unfortunately, Assemblyman Tonko, who first introduced this bill, was re-elected.
