I feed my savvy at least 12 crickets a day, sometimes more and once in a while I throw in about 3 pinkies at once. I used to skip a day, but I was feeding 24 crickets at a time. Now it's just 12 a day, around the same time every day. (probably could do with more food)
Scorpions soon, too.

Raven is about 7 monyhs old. At last I checked (last monday)she was 28 cm total length and 64.1 grams.

Scorpions? That's a novel idea. What kind? Do you remove the sting first?
Thanks

I haven't fed any scorpions to her yet... I'm just waiting for a little more size on her. I'm not interested in killing her by accident.

No I don't plan on removing the sting.

what is the deal with you and feeding scorpions?

c0ldbl00ded Nov 06, 2004 04:40 PM

I'm just trying to provide a little variety. I'm sure crickets and frozen mice are good and all, but why not scorpions?
She might not even eat them, who knows?
And since they are only 30 bucks, I might as well.

Over feeding is common in savannahs so be careful not to over feed. My brother has worked with savannahs for a few years and I hope this helps. He once had a picture fall and knock his savannah cage over releasing his little savannah into the house. It entered the walls through a pocket door and we didn't recover him for four months later. We put him back in the cage and feed him well. That savannah ended up growing twice as fast that next year compared to the growth rate of other savannahs he had recorded. Although it isn't exactly a scientific study, it suggests a little fasting and allowing them to burn up some of that fat is useful to them. It is okay to feed them every second or third day when they are young. He always fed a mix of crickets, anoles, and small mice.
