Freezing Fish????

xsamx Nov 04, 2004 10:11 AM

I usually feed my turtles pre-killed feeder fish as they are often too clumisly to get them. I was thinking, would it be possible to stock up and buy a whole bunch of feeders and freeze them in a bag? If so, how long would this last me? Do frozen fish go bad quickly? Do any of you do this? thanks
- Sam.

I really hope that someone answers this post as this is an excellent question. I would think that you could freeze them for up to a month at least.

Have you tried using the dried fish or anything else available in your area?

I would recommend cleaning the tank really well after feeding them to your turtles, or use a "feeder tank". I really like using a feeding tank as it is easier to clean, and helps keep the tank cleaner much longer.

Thanks for your post. If no one answers in a day or two, I'll try to do some research on this for you.

Take care,

live feeder fish should only be fed to your turtles because frozen fish are deficient in thiamin and excess consumption will cause a thiamin deficiency in your turtles. i came across your post and i knew i read that some where and found next to my turtle tank.

also feeder fish are known to carry some diseases and shouldn't be fed every day.
