Antegy Nov 04, 2004 02:16 PM

Hi everyone,

Could anyone please tell me about Trinket Ratsnakes (i.e, origin, disposition, appearance, husbandry, etc.). I just got one by happenstance and know nothing about them.

Please, any info on this "Elaphe helena helena" is greatly appreciated!

Thanks very much,
- Mark

They are native to India primarily. Typically an easy-going rat snake that will tolerate activity and handling well. Females grow to about 4 feet, males to about 3 feet. Usually have brown or tan ground color with bands/blotches on upper body and stripes on tail. May have varying degrees of white interspersed throughout. Keep them on dry substrate with a humid hide box available. Caging can be as small as 12"x24" comfortably for adults. Temps of 75-83 are adequate with night drop of 5-10 degrees. Feed a mouse approximately the same size as the largest diameter of the snake's body once a week. If you're intersted in breeding, these are a good pick as they will breed year-round if kept well fed and stress free. Good luck!

Last night I was laying in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, "Where the hell is my ceiling?"
