I took an extended 'herpin' trip through some of my favorite San Diego back-country and desert spots over the past several days and thought I'd share some of my obeservations and the like with y'all...
Basically it was San Diego mountians and valleys by day and desert road cruising by night. Had a great trip with a good variety of herps and other critters.
Started out on Friday morning with a nice California Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula californiae)

Here's his habitat:
Followed that with a nice juvenile Southern Pacific Rattlesnake (Crotalus viridis helleri) - note how small he was by the Darkling beetle next to him! He was under a tiny board at the edge of a dried up pond.
