PANTHER IN TROUBLE!!!!PLEASE HELP!!!EYES closed etc.

abdeutsch Nov 04, 2004 05:07 PM

Can anyone help me?A few weeks ago my 1.5 year old Male Panther Chameleon started keeping one eye closed.I thought maybe he just got something in it because he woul open it every so often. But now,he has both eyes shut tight, and gets extremely aggressive and stressed when I attempt to help him with anything. He is normally VERY outgoing, and always likes to come out of his screeen cage when anyone approaches. Now he's lethargic, and stays at the bottom of his ficus tree all day.Any ideas what it might be causing this?Any help is much appreciated!!

Hi Arian,

I am sure you are anxious about this but more info is needed. What is your set up like?

lights (type, heat/UVB/basking) how long
food - gutloaded? calcium? vitamins?
temps
humidty
water source - dripper/misting - is he drinking?

can you post a pic?

Try to get him to hold onto a pice of fabric (not terry so his nails don't get caught) and see if you can wash his eyes with some warm water. Are they crusty? Is anything coming out? What's his color? he may be at the bottom of the cage b/c he cannot see to get anywhere - also why he probably is very stressed when you try to help. From his point of view (since he can't see) you are just suddenly there - they don't hear well at all.

Tell us your set up but also consider a trip to a vet - do you have a good one?
