Herptivite/ReptoLife confusion

Rez Nov 04, 2004 05:26 PM

I've read that BD's need a vitamin supp called Herptivite (sp?) once in a while. Our pet store doesn't carry it, but instead gave me something called ReptoLife. It's a multi-vitamin and mineral formula (with color enhancers and oxidants). Gutload or direct-use and give once or twice a week.

Is this the same as Herptivite or something totally different? I don't want my BD sick if he injests too much or too little. T_T

I haven't tried this supp but just a word of warning against "color enhancers" as some can be harmfull to my understanding. I would suggest ordering herptivite off the internet. For good alternatives to herptivite that you can get at say Wal-Mart go to www.beautifuldragons.com Veronica has put together an awesome sight dedicated to informing beardie owners of good products, food and many other usefull bits of info and offerings!

Bearded Dragons need two different sorts of supplements, although often they are combined into one. They need calcium, so look for a vitimin whose first ingrediant is calcium carbonate. That is the most important thing. As for the other vitimins they need, the "ask the vet" link at reptilesmagazine.com address that just a little while ago....
