I too am looking into investing a large deal of money into chondros. I've read the info off of chondroweb.com, but still feel like a need a bit more.
I basically hoping you guys couuld get some facts strate for me.

1.) I read that you shouldn't buy from a show, but I feel that a show helps me take a real good look at an animal, how do you guys feel about that??

2.) The beautiful little babies, is there any way to REALLY know how they're going to turn out? Yellow or Red does it make a difference?

3.) Locality - should I care? trust?

Thanks for all info

Generally this is a good rule to follow. Only buy from shows from people that are dedicated chondro keepers. Make sure there are pics of the parents, other siblings, eggs, and all records of available animals on hand. Get any information on the bloodline if available. I personally supply all of this on disc for anyone interested.

There is no guarantee on what a chondro will turn out looking like. One thing to note, most "true" blue bloodline animals are red hatchlings. Other than that, there is no way to tell.

3.) Locality - should I care? trust?

Again, something that really can't be guaranteed. Most claims of locale animals are just marketing schemes. Without collecting documentation these "locale labels" are just that........a label. The only locale types that can usually be distinguished from all others are Arus and Biaks. There are general areas where imports are collected, but they usually can't be traced to the exact location. There are a few individuals working with true locale specific animals. Most dealers can't be trusted with such sales tactics. Save yourself the headaches and go with captive bred and born animals. Some imports will do well, but most will whither away with time. Good luck.

I would have said the same but Brandon said it before me...good reply!!!
I guess you have a point when you say that at the show you can get a good look at the animal...If you are experienced enough to know a bad snake from a good snake, you certainly have better chances of finding a good animal but the seller may not tell you all the truth about that animal(unless reputable)ie where it really comes from, feeding, health issue that would not be obvious...also, most of the time it will be the only and last time you will ever see the guy...therefore he is not necessary compelled to make you happy...If you buy from a reputable breeder, you will get more background information, he is not likely to sell diseased or not-eating animals and will try to help you (within reason) if you run into trouble...all of that because he is probably dedicated to GTP and has a reputation to maintain...the trade off is that if you live far away you may not have a chance to look at the animal up close. That certainly mean that you will have to do a bit of research to find out who is reputable and who is not...but it is well worth the trouble IMO.
