Just thought I would share some pics from this last herp season since it has gotten too cold to find any snakes now. By far, the most found of the large colubrids while out herping here in KY was the Coluber constrictor priapus, Southern black racer.

These pictures are mainly from the spring, as we found a few at each site and they were so common that we stopped photographing them later in the season!! We found them just about at every site. No two pictures are of the same snake, and one interesting note, we only found 2 or 3 juveniles. Maybe because they are just so small and very good at hiding.

Here is one of the nicer looking juveniles we found...

Here is a close up of a nice looking specimen.....

This is in situ, this racer had found a nice mouse home under one of our tins and decided to "evict" them!! LOL

Here is one that was in the blue. Interestingly, we found him laying out in the sun. This was either in April or May, so the snakes were taking full advantage of the spring sun!!!

Here is a nice healthy specimen Kevin is holding, this one was found laying on a large log out in the sun...

Here is one of a pair that we found under one of our tin sites, the other one was too fast and disappeared into the tall grass...

Here is by far the worst looking snake I have found out herping. This one was very skinny and looked like it hadnt eaten in a long time. It was mid April when this one was found, so Im assuming he didnt eat too well last year before he went into brumation. Either that or he had some sort of infection or parasite...

Here is another we found in the blue. This one was under a piece of cover....

And this one was a very good shot of a Trigg county racer. One of my favorite shots of the racers we saw....

Hope you all enjoyed the pictures, and until next season, later
Brian

Thanks Matt
The great commonwealth of Kentucky!

And we found far more racers this last season than any other snake, (besides ring-necks).
