Heat cable. please answer.

leopardgeckoman Nov 04, 2004 07:35 PM

If i follow albey's too cool reptiles thing on making the thing with perlite and stuff for the leo eggs. If i were to put heating cable in there would that work instead of an incubator? All i need to know is will it keep the temp at like 83 and can i vary the temperature of heat cable? If so it would be a great money saver. 12.99 vs. 99.99.

99.99? What incubator are you looking at?! I got my hovabator for less than $40.

I do suppose that the heat cable idea would work, but you'd need to the spend some decent money on a rheostat/thermostat, so you'd likely be up to almost $30 or $40 anyway. I don't know I think it's just easier going with the hovabator. Just my $0.02

That's actually the same incubator I have (I also got mine from LLL). And yes, most containers will fit in there. I actually use two eggs in a 4.5 inch deli cup (8 or 16 oz), and then I write the info (lay date, parents) on the cover so I know when to expect them. I have to use a little more water than albey because my deli cups have holes, but otherwise it works extremely well. Only had one set of non-hatches and that was from a first-timer.
