Hey Xelda, et. call, Q regarding Roaches

Snarks Nov 04, 2004 07:38 PM

Which ones have you found work the best, minimal stink is the main thing. I worry about anything other than the lobsters because the other species seem to grow to such a large adult size.
I am feeding leos and a crested, perhaps a beardie in the near future :P

Im seriously considering using them as staples, i will need to find a supplier in canada however, i doubt the pet stores will have them. Perhaps i can sell my extra roaches to the petstores here.

Anyways any input from anyone who has roaches would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Your best bet would probably be the following:
Orange head (Eublaberus prosticus)
Orange spot (Blaptica dubia)
Discoid (Blaberus discoidales)
Six spot (Eublaberus distanti)
Death head (Blaberus craniifer)

The orange heads do give off a defensive smell when disturbed. It’s nothing like crickets though. Also remember to keep them clean. The cleaner they are the less they smell.

I can’t think of anyone who breeds roaches in Canada but you can do an internet search and search the classifieds. You’ll also want to check the laws in Canada on keeping roaches. Feeder roaches are really booming right now so you won’t have a problem selling your extras.
