I don't like to have to remove crickets from my tank. I think it's too much a stressor on my anoles to have me poking around the tank looking for crickets..and it isn't a good idea to have a dozen crickets running around the tank.
I feed one insect at a time. They get another if they eat that one. If they don't eat the last one i just leavge it in the tank. I don't mind having a single cricket running around.
I feed crickets, lobster roaches and silk worms regularly. I feed waxworms every now and again and I never feed mealworms.
I have 2 small anoles in a 25 gallon high tank. I was feeding them every day but they wouldn't eat them all so went to every other day. Now they eat them up. I just put some in a little cup to dust them then put them in the anole tank. Probably 8-10 at a time. They are very small crickets. Be sure your gut loading the crickets if your raising them.
I don't worry about trying to take the uneated cricktes out. That would be more hassle. Besides the anoles will snatch them up sooner or later. Just don't have an excessive amount in there.
it seems 4-8 crickets every other day seems to do them fine. the crickets range in size from small to medium-large. i try to vary the sizes among what i have. 4-5 small. and 1-3 medium to large. i have a 2.5 gallon glass mini-aquarium. (which is pretty freakin sweet lookin cause its an aquarium, yet its sooo small lol) Any suggestions on raising own crickets/insects? i plan to get another 2.5 gallon to raise more insects in. a 2.5 for each species. Eventually i thought itd be kool to walk in my closet and have nothing but tanks of insects about lmao. I also dont mind raising insects cause i fancy myself a bit of an entomologist/socioentemologist. (Someone who studies insects and insect community behavior) anyway yeah 4-8 crickets every 2 or 3 days seems to do fine. dusting them every other feeding. lightly dusting the tomato slices i drop in the cricket habbitat. got some peach baby food the other day cause i hear the anoles love the stuff but havent tried it yet.
i never tried the peach baby food either. my frined feeds it to her crickets. i looked into raising crickets and it seems more hassle then it's worth...at least for me. you might go for it. i'd just as soon buy them.
you can get some good deals at reptile shows. usually a container of 1,000 go for like $12 dollars. that's pretty good since around here some places sell them for 80 cents to a dollar a dozen.
that's about what mine eat... 4-5 every other day and i dust mine with reptocal. i also feed the crickets orange slices, lettuce, apple slices and carrots. they LOVE flake fish foods.
