what kind of stuff do you write? I always get ideas to write about but very rarely do I put it on paper. I need to force myself to do it. Anyway, just curious.

Mainly I write horror, Sci-Fi, and humor, and am working on my second novel. I also do poetry and lyrics. Of course I write articles for the Fla Leauge of Herp Societies and am editor for my own society as well.

If you want to write by all means do. As Twain said; to succeed what you need to do is "to write, to write, to write..." Find an area that you love and just write about it.

If you want to pursue it on a more grand scale then it is a very good idea to join a writer's group online. There are (of course) a number of specifics you will need to know about before submitting work for sale.

Stear clear of vanity presses though. A lot of companies make a living off getting you to pay them to publish. This is almost allways a losing proposition.

Finally, the writing business is a very tough nut to crack. Most agents are so backlogged with manuscripts that they will often reject your work unread. (in other words don't quit your day job). It takes 2-3 years for a book to go thru the publishing process (from agent to bookstore).

But by all means WRITE. The worst thing is to end up eighty and having never tried. Beleave me, even if your not published...it's worth it.

good luck,

Frank

I don't tend to read modern authors. I am more into Twain, H.p. Lovecraft, Asimov, Robert E. Howard, Poe, O Henry and Saki (H.H.Munro).

Read Twain, Poe, Asimov and a LITTLE lovecraft. Liked Heinlien too (not in same category at all). SOME of the new guys are worth reading. I've read a lot, and filtered out what I thought was common. Ask, and I'll tell you where to start IF you have any interest.
