my baby

It has been quite sometime since I last posted in here. But i return for some help!!!!!!!

I have an albino gecko, Phaedrus, which i believe is in his last days! Last night I was looking in the his habitat and he looked very odd to me, like he didn't feel good. I know that he hasn't been eating the last couple of days, which I thought was because his eyes have been acting up lately. So I have been hand feeding him crickets. (not my favorite pass time, but i love phaedrus so!) But anyways, this morning I wake up to find that Phaedrus has lost his tail!!!!!!! Now i know that they will eject it if they feel threatened in some way, but I don't know how he could've been threatened.

Now i am sure some may think that i over reacting and it's just my mind. But i really think he's not going to live. The reason i say this is because Phaedrus's stomach is somewhat transparent because he's an albino, and when i looked today it was bruised, almost like he's impacted ya know. So I immediately called the vet, one that specializes in gecko's and other various types of reptiles. She asked what the problem was, and i explained it to her and all, and she told me about some home treatments i can try. She told me to give him/her 2 drops of mineral oil to help with the constipation (if he/she is impacted). And as for the tail to put neosporin on twice a day to help with the healing process. And to give him a warm bath at least once to twice a day to help keep the spot clean.

i guess what i am trying to ask is, do you think he is going to make it? I mean the vet told me that if i took him into her officed i am looking at like 150-200 dollars. Depending on treatment of course. And to be completely honest, I don't have the money at all, I am going to college, and working two jobs just to cover the bills i have now.

Does anyone have any kind of insight on this? Anything would be a help to me!!!

I was also thinking that maybe phaedrus is pregnant? because i have two geckos, but I don't know the sex of them. I know that may sound stupid, but medusa doesn't like to be handled too much, he or she is getting better with it, but i can't hold "it" long enough to really check the pores. So could phaedrus's tail been bitten off by the other for mating purposes? and the reason phaedrus's stomach looks the way it does is because its pregnant?

I know i may sound like a noob to all of this, but i am really am not. I just love my little babies so much that I have become so upset about this. It has consumed me! Please, Please if anyone can help me, i would appreciate it soooooooooooooooo much!

The vet gave good, sound advice. If executed properly, there is a very good chance it may live... that is if it IS impaction, which it sounds like.

Do you keep him on sand substrate?

Well it's a sand substrate, but it's suppose to be really fine, that way if they do injest it, it won't cause a problem

dont keep it in its normal cage!! put it in a plastic bin or something that you can keep warm and humid!(put vermictulite or coconut bedding in there and keep it moist-not soaked!-)
DONT PUT THE BEDDING FROM THE CAGE IN THERE!
throw out all the old sand and clean the cage really good.
if you dont have one GET A UV LITE AND PUT IT OVER THE ENCLOSURE.

that is all that i can say.

good luck with the gecko!
