I want to add some variety to my eastern's diet and noticed some recent talk about fish on the forum. Where do you guys get fish for your indigo? Bait shop? Pet shop? What kind of fish do you feed? Does it need to be frozen fish? Do live fish cary pests that would bother a snake?

One female Eastern Indigo. That's right, just one snake. But she's my dream-snake, so back off man.

there is always the chance of parasites when feeding fish....bait shops usually have better quality because the minnows are kept in highly aerated and cool water; don't feed goldfish. i usually freeze my fish first and then feed....or, try feeding some farm raised catfish chunk pieces you can obtain at the grocery store. just make this a small part of the overall diet and if you have any doubts, i would just recommend keeping your baby on a mouse/rat/quail diet.

I have found trout to be an excellent, and safe, source of fish for Drys, as they are a lean cold water fish.
Catfish pack quite a bit of fat, especially farm raised.
Be certain to follow Carmichael's sage advice of freezing any fish or fowl you may decide to offer your Dry, though most trout offered through seafood shops and grocery stores are already frozen.
If you plan to add fish and fowl to the diet, be prepared to clean your enclosures on a more frequent basis, as fish and fowl can be quite foul!! ;0)

I also use grocery store trout as a supplemental food. Indigos LOVE them and I have found that shedding problems are dramatically reduced by feeding fish occasionally. Any farm-raised fish should be pretty much parasite-free.
