Mealworm Breeding Question

daudet Nov 05, 2004 09:32 AM

Okay I was successful in breeding mealworms... too successful. I had the worms morph to the beetles, and the beetles are breeding. I guess they laid eggs, but do the babies look like worms immediately? I saw these small eggs on the side of the sterilite tub i have them in, but i noticed they are moving. Do they start out as tiny insects? They almost move like mites, but not as big, we're talking microscopic. The problem I'm having is they are walking up the side of the container and out of the ventilation holes in the tub and onto the rack itself. Any experienced folks know what to do?

Sounds like you have a bug infestation in your bugs. Maybe a fruit fly or mite or something. Mealworm babies look like tiny mealies. TINY....like a 1/32 or 1/16 diameter and 3/8 long. and look just like the grown mealies.
