this is a local specific water monitor. It's also said that this is the axanthic form of water monitor (morph). They carry the same latin name as normal waters.

So it's A Varanus Salvator Salvator color phase?

Hi G,
The sulphur water monitors are simply variations on the nominate theme, V. salvator salvator. They 'may' be the original descriptions for V. salvator bivittatus Kuhl, 1820? But Kuhl's description does not mention this yellow color. Although sulphur water monitors change in color from dark to yellow with age as does V.s. cumingi, they are not as different as V.s. cumingi is from V.s. salvator to warrant subspecies/species status. They are know from a very few localities and may be isolated populations with this particular phenotype morphology, but really are just plain and simply, just magnificent beautiful salvators.

For more on sulphurs, see www.cybersalvator.com - the webmaster there knows more about sulphurs than anyone (in my opinion)...
good luck,
mbayless
