Taiwan Beauty & Trinkets...

Antegy Nov 05, 2004 12:10 PM

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering - does it look to any of you like the Taiwan Beauty Snake and the Trinket Snake are very similar in appearance? Perhaps they are somewhat closely related?

Hi, Mark. I don't think they are closely related as the trinket is in the genus Coelognathus (helena) and the Taiwan beauty is in the genus Orthriophis (taneniura). I kinda relate though, as I think the red mountain ratsnakes, Oreophis porphyracea, are similar to the trinket snake, and may have evolved from them.

Try looking at some of the other coelognathus species such as radiata and subradiata, they look a lot more similar to trinkets than taiwans do.

Also I keep both species and have to say that care of the trinkets has a few little differences to that of the tai's.
