PASTEL Lines question ?? For pastel Breeders/Owners

SMsnakes Nov 05, 2004 12:20 PM

I am in the process of buying a pastel.

My question is I have seen so many different line of pastels and some remarkable looking and some no so.

What is the differences between them??

Is there a noticeable differences between lines?

Are lines compatible?

I have a friend that has been breeding them for a few years, Graziani line.
He had been wanting a super for 3 years nothing, then last season he had bought a Sharp male. He put him in with two of his Graziani female and BAM 3 supers. What the heck??
3 supers from crossing lines is there some thing going on here??

I have not seen a SK line up close and so called personal.

Can some one tell me about these lines.

What makes them different?

E-mail me if needed.

Thanks!!

all the same....pastels are pastels......

Graziani have more faded centers sometimes...Bell's are nice too......I like both...

Most other "lines" are just Graziani or Bells' bred by someone else......with or wothout the use of a wild "caught" pastel thrown in to the mix

yes....3 supers from graziani crossed to nerd, bell,or gnadzdowski lines....

all the same

only real difference?.....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

males run from $700 to $1500 each....depends on who is ripping you off..........

have fun...........

BELL's from molekings.com........

As far as I know, nobody has really tested to see whether pastel in the various lines are the same mutant or independent mutants. The "super" appearance could be because the snake is homozygous for one mutant or heterozygous for two independent mutants that produce an additative effect when combined in one animal.

For the most reliable test, you'd have to cross the homozygous (super) form from one line with the homozygous (super) form from another line and then mate the babies to normal snakes. Using a super-appearing snake from crossing two lines is acceptable, too, but is less reliable. If 100 babies were produced, and all were pastel, then you have pretty good evidence that the two mutants are not independent.

Rumor has it Graziani lines brown out when they adult. Fact has it that any and all pastels that are more orange then bright yellows brown out. I've seen beautiful Bell line and NERD Lemon Line pastels. Personally I fancy the Lemon line from NERD, they are neon yellows and I've not seen many 'ugly' pastels from this line. I think it's just a personal choice.

Just like in cars not all BMWs are the same type, each offers it's own uniqueness or customizations. Just like dealerships whereever you go will be offering a different price.

Have fun with it, get yourself a great new little pastel! Our's is special to us he is also 50% possible het albino. G'luck!

A PASTEL "IS A PASTEL" "IS A PASTEL". ALL PASTELS ARE COMPATIBLE.
I would just find the prettiest one you can find no matter what line. Go down the page and read Marcus Jane's responce to a similar question. I think the thread is call "Bell vs Graziani line pastels" or something like that. Marcus is very knowledgeable and and experienced breeder. Hope this helps.
