Emergency!

kulkat Nov 05, 2004 01:18 PM

My husband just walked in the door with a Box turtle, obviously hit by a car. Her shell is cracked in the front and there is blood, but, she is attentive and walking around. Her one eye is closed too but that looks like whatever happened to that eye happened a while ago. Anyway, she is in one of my spare turtle tanks, (I have many), with water and a heat light. What can I do for her now, or do I bring her to a Vet. Judging by my neighbor's experience with hurt turtles, the vets sometimes won't do anything.
Meanwhile I will look in back posts to see anything similar to mine. Thanks.

Take this turtle out of the water, put it in a box and get it to the nearest animal hospital or emergency clinic ASAP.

Please let me know how things go.

Well I took the turtle to "Popcorn Park Zoo" here in NJ, a reptile vet referred me to them. I'll call them up in a couple of days to find out what happened to "Crackie". She was still bleeding this morning, a little, through the bandages and I have just way too many critters here at my house to take a more thorough care of her.
