Dumeril with Gaping Mouth! Questions...

ink_scorpion Nov 05, 2004 03:36 PM

Hi folks, and happy Friday! This afternoon I witnessed my Dumerils Boa displaying this posture for about 2 to 3 minutes. I believe this behavior indicates excessive temperature in the enclosure, but am not completely certain. The temps in the 20L tank are 94 degrees in the warm end and 76 degrees in the cool end, with on average 65 to 70 percent humidity.

About 2 weeks ago I also posted that she was not eating if anyone recalls. It's been about 5 weeks now since she took her last meal. I have also not witnessed that she has passed fecal matter in quite some time (at least 3 weeks).

I am going to set up a Vet apointment A.S.A.P., but I was wondering if anyone can tell me if she is displaying classic signs of dehydration? Also, is there anything I can do in the short term to help her out? Any/All information you guys and gals have for me would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Maurice

Could be lots of things. Maybe a respiratory problem ( RI ). If there is any wheezing or mucus coming from mouth or nose it more than likely is a RI. Could be over heating if you are using a heat lamp with such a small cage. Last but not least it may be internal parasites. I would take the boa to the Vet for a check up.
