Anybody have any pics of the new Green tree monitor species V. Telenestes (Rossel Island)?
Do you think they will become available in the USA?

If I am not mistaken, V. telenestes is a very rare species, in which there has been very little published about them. I also believe that there have only been a handful of specimens actually located/collected, all of which are now residing in pickled museum collections.

So, with there being very little known about, and not too many specimens actually captured, I would highly doubt that there are any in this country, nor will there be, unless the island/s that they originate from become exploited by the pet trade. Plus, since they are a described species, I would think you would run into similar exportation problems as you would with prasinus....

another virtually unkown variant of the prasinus complex is bogerti, where I believe there is only a few specimens residing in museums as well.. With this species more closely resembling V. beccari.

As for your spencerii inquiry below, nobody to my knowledge has smuggled them into the states. There was somebody in europe who just recently hatched some out, I believe it was Morelia Inc. Beautiful animals, but not exactly my cup of tea... I'll stick to my skinny tree lizards....

I hope this may help a little bit... take care, have a great day,

bob

Thanks for the info. that explains why I haven't been able to find any pics. Do you have any pics of the other species you mentioned?

Just FYI, the name is actually Varanus telenesetes. What Bob said, no one has made their acquaintance in the field other than an ornithologist or two with a shotgun.

Thank you for the correction in the name.
