Help - Eggs!

cwright May 15, 2003 11:27 AM

Hi, this is my first time posting. I recently started keeping leopard geckos. I have a male in with 5 females. I have gotten about 12 eggs over the past 2 months. The first several clutches did fine for about 2 weeks, then got several dents in them and turned brownish. I have about 6 new ones in the incubator and noticed one of them is beginning to get dents. Once I see the dents, I tried adding a little water to the first clutches, in case the humidity was too low, but only got fungus. I am incubating at about 82 for females in a little giant incubator on vermiculite. Any suggestions on what could be the problem? The male is supposed to be proven. Thanks for the help.

First of all, is your thermometer accurate? Cheap incubators like the little giant aren't set up correctly for reptile incubation temps. I used to use hovabators until I ran into nasty problems with them. If your going to be incubating large quantities of eggs, I would take the time to make your own incubator. I would also get a humidity guage and check your moisture levels. Put a shallow dish of water in the incubator to help raise the levels up to acceptable levels.

sounds like the thing that happens to infertile eggs after about 2 weeks. How do you incubate? Go to www.albeysreptiles.com and look under how to incubate. This method will set the perfect humidity and such. I would also double check your temps as mentioned.
