Sulcata not drinking water...

Niki Nov 05, 2004 06:43 PM

Hi all, I'm keeping my sulcata tortoise in a 10 gallon tank filled
halfway with water and I see him sorta swimming around in it, but never
drinking it actually.

OK I'm just kidding, chill!

Remember Teddy? Well he's doing fine, running around 80 pounds
now. I remember reading about other larger torts not drinking
or even having water in their enclosures anymore, I know I haven't
had water in there for months after he constantly refused to mess
with it. When he was small up until last year he would drink
regularly. Remind me those of you with the bigger guys (King Karl
are you available?) about the drinking situation. Teddy's main
diet it timothy hay now with supplementation of greens and occasionally
Mazuri. Looking for answers from others with sulcatas over 50
pounds at least, not those of you with torts you can pick up (in the
palm of your hand).

Didn't you know his water intake valve was permanently sealed after that dip? (OK I'm just kidding, chill! ..again )

what kind of greens did he had and how often? it could be those moisture contents in it that he had enough...the cool weather also another factor.

since spring he's pretty much stopped drinking. His hay is soaked
before he gets it too though. I think he's aware of the fact that
he's gonna kill you if he steps on your foot, so he "pretends" he
doesn't see you. Never rammed or anything though. Still very
sweet.

...maybe he doesn't want do the booze in front of the ladies and just try to be polite

the other thing is how HOT is his habitat so he can sweat... indoor/outdoor ?
