Treating mouthrot is not that simple. First, you need to find out what type of bacteria is causing the problem. A vet needs to take a swab and try to culture the organism and find an antibiotic that it will be sensitive to. It is not a good idea to "shotgun" treat with Baytril, as the infection can lead to resistant bacteria, abcesses, and damage to the jaw. Untreated infection can damage the jaw and erode the bone, and the cham is miserable while this goes on. There is NOTHING topical that will cure the underlying infection. You can treat it topically IN ADDITION to systemic antibiotics, but not alone. You can swap the sore area with Betadine to clean it. Also, I've read that adding vitamin C to the crix gutload helps.
