Leopard Gel??

lilpurpletoes Nov 06, 2004 08:10 AM

Hi there, my 2 year-old male gecko just loves his plastic Tupperware-style hide box (originally a breeding box, he just took it away from the female). However, lately I've noticed that there are large clumps of a clear, gel-like substance in the moss that wasn't there before. I've been using the same moss since I've had the box, and keeping the same humidity level, so I don't know where it's coming from. Could it be from my leo?

You need to change the moss immediately... and every few weeks at a minimum.

I'm going to take a guess and say that it's some form of bacteria (think about it... a warm, dark, moist place all the time). The last thing you want is your leo exposed to extra bacteria or mold, ect. Change the moss more frequently and I'd bet it goes away.

My males also leave a "little gel gift" every now and then, especially if a female is around. I think it may be some type of ejaculate, not 100% on it, but that is probably what that is. Clean out the hide and replace the substrate. If your male and female are housed together you had better get ready to see some eggs in the near future!
