sliders in PA lake

ntothed89 Nov 06, 2004 09:51 AM

i was out fishing yesterday and i noticed some RES in the lake. know they aren't wild since they dont live here. i have
RES myself and thought i should catch them and take them out since they arent native. i have them now. should i keep them or put them back?
thanks

i would keep them to make sure they dont breed and wipe out the natural species that live inn the lake, i live in Monmouth county NJ and they arent native here either, but over the last 3-5 years they have become the dominant species in our lakes, i guess its from the owners letting their turtles go after years either way its wrong and shouldnt happen. i would def suggest taking them in to prevent native species from being wiped out

just wondering (again)... what are you going to do with all of these sliders? do you have a pond in your backyard or something? i mean that's a lot of turtles to house!! i give you respect for trying to change their environment and making it safer for our native turtles, i was just wondering where you are going to put all of these sliders?!?! thanks
(by the way... i live in western pa, near pittsburgh)

i do have a pond in my back yard. it was a small one for my 3 but since i have these 4 others i am now making a bigger one. its i think 5000 gallons. theyll be in that in the summer and sping, and some of the fall. now in my basement (its like a zoo) i have my 3 in a tank(i dont know how many gallons it is but its 6 feet long so its a lot. i bought a preform pond and im keeping the 4 i cought in there until i can find them homes or i dont know what ill do with them. they are all females so i dont think ill have to worry about them fighting since i cought them all on the same dock. i dont mind answering any questions, u can keep em coming lol
