Citrus fruits are high oxalates. Most igs don't even like them. I was reading about this just the other night (Hatfield). He noted that igs who didn't like them spit them out after trying them, then ignored them and wouldn't try them again. I believe he thought that maybe their mouths/saliva just aren't suited for eating highly acidic goods and that they probaby can't digest it very well.

Since your ig loves it, you can probably continue feeding it... but in very small portions and only as treats. Remember, if nothing else, you're feeding a lot of oxalates and binding that good calcium. Also, consult your vet about this and whether or not it's going to hurt him in the long run.

My iguana will do ANYTHING for clementine pieces. I give them to him once in a while around Christmas when we buy them. I think if they hurt him, he wouldn't want to eat them again. I only let him have them once in a while, but he will try to eat them if I have them around the house, and he will try to eat my fingers if they smell like clementines.

So I'm on the fence about citrus.
