Oh shoot, I might have to wait a while, a LONG while before I get a snake...

Hi, I'm only 16, and I was planning on buying my first snake, a ball python, tomorrow, but I was looking at the different in-state colleges that I would go to, and they only allow fish! My parents said they wouldn't want to take care of it(I wouldn't expect them too), and even if they did, he wouldn't get the level of care he would deserve. Am I out of luck and going to have to wait until I get out of college?

you have a few options, but most arnt worth it if a snake is your only reason. You can live off-campus, or you can go to a college close enough to drive from home too.

there is always the "put the snakes basking spot etc on a timer and come home every weekend to feed it" option, but.. thats kinda.... meh.

theres also "sneak it in" but then you hae a huge dillemma when you get caught.

You still have several years to go before going to college, unless you already know which college you are going to go to already. Staying off campus is always a choice but it would mean finding roommates you like or a job that pays enough to have your own apartment. You do have two years to warm your parents up to snakes LOL maybe they will grow attached by the time you are ready to go to school Wouldn't bet on it though.

Havingf the foresight to ensure you can take your pet to college is great though. Alot of people don't do this. Unfortunately there is always the possibility of having to get rid of pets when moving, it happened to me *sigh*. Found work in another city and new appartment wasn't going to be ready for nearly a month so that meant having no place to keep the pets (parents wouldn't watch my snakes, lizards or rodents for any longer than it took to find new homes). Anyway, always things to consider

A little something about college....contrary to what TV may show you chances are after your first year of "dorm life" and the pseudo-freedom it offers, you'll be sick of the dorms and will have most likely found a couple people to rent an apartment with the for the next year or two. This is especially true if you are going to school someplace away from the town your parents live in. Don't worry about it you don't have as long as you think.
