Het for Normal??

LloydHeilbrunn Nov 06, 2004 01:08 PM

From the classifieds:

I'm new to snake genetics, but based on the college genetics course I took back before color TV, I don't think this is possible.

Or am I missing something???

I don't know why that did not quote but I'll try again:

"This Albino Bull is just beautiful! Very healthy, eating f/t aggresively. Possible het for ghost, hypo, snow, white sided, norm and albino."

Do people actually sell het for dead? Ive heard of a gene that causes death when homozygous (sickle cell is kind of an example, most africans are het for it because it immunizes them from malaria but may kill the children if they become homozygous) but Ive never heard of it in snakes.

I was joking around . A friend told me that one , I thought it was funny .

Really it is. Just think- "het for dead $50 shipping" I can see it now! That snake will never sell either, it will be on the classified forever! Or-

"We believe this pair to be het for dead. If it proves to be homozygous for dead, it shall die within a month. If not, they will still produce 25% dead babies with the others possible hets for dead. Dont miss this exciting opportunity for a genetic experiment!"

Oh man thats funny.

Hahahaha Very good .

I dont think that is right for that one, but there are some traits dominant over normal. Someone here (Jason?) said striping in Pacific gophers is dominant, so one could be striped and het for normal.
