please help, dying lizard

Linzoy Nov 06, 2004 03:45 PM

My gecko, named gink, is very sick. We've tried force feeding him, giving him baths, as the hospital people recommended. Nothing seems to help. Can anyone tell me what's wrong??

problems:

1. skinny
2. eyes closed
3. currently too weak to eat
4. breathing badly

Gink is 7 years old.

Well, a little more information might help people figure out. Is he just not eating or anything else?

So you took him to the vet?? Well if he can't do anything it's kinda hard for us to help. Did they vet specialize in herps??
Does he have water? Do you have him on sand?? Hope everything works out.

my only suggestion is to gutload your mealies like crazy for 24-48 hours, then rip the mealies heads off and push the guts (alittle at a time) onto it's mouth. Let he/she lick it up. Continue. It's slow and tediouse but it helped my gecko when he/she was sick. It did not save it, but it could help your gecko. try putting wax worm guts on it's mouth too. Also i have heard turkey flavored baby food is really great, it's high in protien and could really help. dab alittle on it's mouth (mixed with alittle bit of calcium and vitamin) and let him/her lick it up, repeat.

Can you post a picture?
What did the vet exactly say?

He's too weak to eat now. We had to force feed him before, he wouldn't eat. He's seen a vet who speicalizes in herps. He isn't on sand. Wood chips.

are they cedar chips? And yes, any meat flavored baby food is good for syringe feeding. They seem to like turkey most. Mix with calcium and/or multivitamins, maybe a little water, and let him lick it up. How much are you forceing him to eat. What does he weigh, and what are the details of your husbandry? (temps, cage size, humidity, how did this start, etc.) we need more info if you want useful answers.

What kind of wood chips? I lost two animals to that acclaimed 'Reptile and Bird litter'. I'd avoid all chips, or sand if possible. Go with tile, or paper anything.
