Does Luna look skinny?

lele Nov 06, 2004 04:41 PM

Once again, she is not eating much - she can't be gravid again!!!! She looks skinny to me, but she has never been fat (except with eggs). Her ribs have ALWAYS shown, but her skin looks loose. She is heading for a sleep spot so her colors are funky but she has that mellow face "I'm sleepy" anyway, what do you guys think?

Hi Lele,

She doesn't look skinny to me. Looks fine. How many infertile clutch has she laid and how far apart? I just had my female lay her third cluth from stored sperm, within a span of 6 months or so. Didin't even breed her in a while. She's crazy fertile.

Thanks
She laid an infertile clutch in mid-May then another in late July (I think) 42 each time. She has not/will not be bred. With the shorter days I hope she is not triggered until next spring.

that back leg look i bit odd.

anyways if you need an appitite booster i would try mealwrom beetles....i have found that chams will "run"in a cham way) to eat them.

but they are less nutritous than mealwroms and you know how "great" mealies are to begin with.

hey lele,
I think she looks really pretty (in a totally herpetological way. haha). of course, you know what ive been dealing with lately, so anything would look good. haha. Anyway, she remind me of when Lola was healthy, now I feel all sad. Thanks alot, lele. Seriously , though, I think she looks well porportioned in that pic. but you know her best, if you feel like she's a bit different, then act on it. Good Luck with you new adoptees, btw. I've been thinking about poison dart frogs lately. i guess i should get Lola health first, but i can still dream!

How is Lola doing? I think thre fact that she has made it this long is a good testament to both you and her - never give up the fight. Got pix yet?

I thought of dart frogs and at some point I would love to get some - they are SO pretty - and expensive!

I fed all my mealworms to the birds this summer. Luna hads no interest and I got tired of the space they took up in the fridge. So no beetles here.

Her leg does look funny - baggy knees! I think it is just the angle.

She looks like her sister.
I really think with chameleons once they are adult that limiting food intake a bit may lengthen their life span.
Actually I have heard of experiments that show this to be true with most animals and humans too. Wish I could practice what I preach. LOL I could use a few less hamburgers myself!
Unless you feel she is weak or acting sick I would not worry.

What is her normal weight and what does she weigh now? She doesn't appear thin, but I think its hard to tell by eye when you see them every day, so I weigh my crew every two weeks. More importantly, have her lower limbs always been so thickened?

lele Nov 07, 2004 11:05 AM

She's holding at b/t 92-98g. She is small for her age (1 1/2 years) - my special needs girl

You got me thinking about the thick legs so I went back and looked thru photos from day one (she was so tiny!) and she does seem to always have those chubby lower limbs so i guess it is just her. If you want to see some go to my webshots page and look at her albums. Especially her morning stretch album b/c the photos show her limbs well. They were taken in July.

Do the ribs always show? maybe I have seen too many pix of fat chams!

The ribs on mine show when they have a nice load of eggs developing. You don't think..... could she be preggars again?

lele Nov 07, 2004 04:08 PM

I sure hope not! I know her ribs stick out when she's gravid, but she doesn't look wide yet. I sure hope not! it was last Decemebr when she began her 5 month pregnancy! This time I will ignore her until she shows she is ready like she did in the summer - at least now I know!

later today she did eat two crix. What is weird is she has two moths and a fly in her cage and not interested in either - that's a first! Hee usually falls all over herself for anything that flies!
