ok so i have been a bad mommy

jeune18 Nov 06, 2004 07:40 PM

well between my work, school and paycheck schedule, i had not had a chance to take little H to the vet. i know it has been almost a month and i always felt terrible about it but he went today so now i can feel like a good mommy again. he did not have any protozoans in his poo from some kind of enema type thing but we still don't know about the parasites because he did not have enough poo to examine for those. he is also on some calcium syrup because he has a funny little walk that i noticed this week (which is why i made the time to take him) but other than that he is very healthy and very alert and just stole the hearts of the people working there. and he said he has large looking pores so he thinks it is a BOY!!!! so i am going to start calling him hugo finally a name.
anyway, i feel bad that his calcium is low but i really don't think he gets much calcium from his food because he waits till it dries out to eat it and he likes to walk in it which rubs off the calcium. like if there are dried pieces of lettuce in the back of his cage that i have not picked out, he chooses to eat those over the fresh greens. does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him to eat the greens while they are still hydrated?

Maybe you could take out his dried up veggies so he won't be able to eat them.

Also maybe wiggle them around to make it look like its prey.

That's all I can think of at the moment (I've been mentally and physically drained today. I had to take apart my bunk bed so I could finally sleep on a bed that won't hurt my back when I wake up).

Maybe you could try feeding him some gerber baby food like green peas. He might go for that. Or like blend (fine chop up his greens) so they are in a semi-liquid form if he goes for the baby food that might work if you can do the same with his greens.

Keep the greens in the coolest area, and if you can, feed the little guy as close to the time when he usually eats. Sorry it's short, but my IE keeps crashing after I've done some serious typing, before I submit, so I have to re-do it (this is my third attempt).

Well IE is a bad choice to use anyways (I'm not blaming you, but I know this. My family owns a computer business and we do everything ourselves.

Try going to this website and download Mozilla Firefox. Firefox has a lot of things to offer that will help you and it rarely crashes (only when Mozilla is reformatting all of their explorers, which is 1 time every 2 years).

sorry about your IE. nice smily faces, did you go out drinking last night ha ha.
i try to keep the food away from the light but he loves to scatter it everywhere. he is very much so a scavenger and does not like his lid/bowl yet. hmm i will have to see if i see a time when he is eating but many times i am gone! poor little booger, he still thinks he is out in the wild

using Nescape Navigator/Communicator? That's the only thing I use and it works great. It's never crashed on me yet (knock wood). I would recommend downloading Netscape 7.0 (or is it 7.1?) from tucows. com (it's a freeware program).

Good luck

This may or may not apply to your situation but I thought I would share my experiences (not that I'm an expert or anything)with uros. I've owned 6 wild caught uros - 1.2 Sudanese and now 1.2 Saharan. They were all purchased as wild caught and they - especially the males, were in bad shape. Dehydrated and thin. They would also only pick at the dried leaves. After worming them I would rehydrate them using a mixture of pedialyte, squash baby food, a little vitamin and calcium mix and some plain yogurt that was given in a tube syringe orally. The yogurt has beneficial bacteria that stimulates appetite. The pedialyte, of course, rehydrates them. Just be VERY careful to not get any fluid in the airway (glottis). Also try (if you don't have already) a very good UV light over/near the food. Uros, and other herbivorous lizards, see colors in the the UV spectrum differently then we can. Certain colors will appear very bright to them. This will stimulate appetite also. Once rehydrated - 3 or 4 days, I feed dandelion flowers because they all seem to really love them and the pollen further stimulates appetite. Also I keep the sides of the enclosure covered for a long time - until they are really feeding well, and they also need a hide that narrows at the back so they can wedge themselves in to feel secure or they won't eat either. Of course correct temps too but I'm sure you know most of this - but I hope some of this may help...

well i have been soaking him once a week since he does not seem to be eating things that are moist and he will actually drink the water. this uro had a lot of meat on its bones comparatively. my first uro was a wild caught and a rescue, so talk about bad shape. i realy do need to get the worms out of him. i may try giving him some baby food to see if he will switch over to the hydrated stuff. i won't force feed him just because i have never figured out how to open their mouths. i just put a little dab on their lips and wait for them to lap it up. i have a UV light that goes across the cage so i cannot imagine that it does not hit his food, however i will try to reposition everything and see if it helps.
