Feeding Frog-eyed Geckos

martinsonly Nov 06, 2004 08:38 PM

I've a little male Frog-eyed and I'm not sure he's eating well enough. When I first got him about a month ago he ate two waxworms, then started refusing them. I've offered mealworms but he won't take them. I put a several very small crickets in also but I've just taken out a bunch of dried husks. Perhaps he ate the ones that molted? The were all hidden under his hide rock - which he rarely uses in favor of a dug out spot above the undertank heater.

Is there something else he'd rather be eating. He drinks water from a bowl.

Thanks.

What are his tempetures like? Any tank mates? Might also want to get him checked for worms.

The tank is set-up well (I have been breeding leos for awhile along with cresteds, temp-wise about the same as leos). He has no cage mate at this time. I don't see any sign of worms, but I can Panacur him if need so, although in my experience animals with worms are often food-crazy in early stages because their competing with the parasites for nutrition. Do you keep Frog-eyes? What do you feed them?

Thanks.

If the temps are in the right at about 80-86 with a humidity of about 30% with humidity being higher in the tunnels. With hides and everything and the animal is not stressed it is should be eating by now. I seen these animals numerous times that are emaciated and no doubt are heavily infested with parasites. It doesnt neccesarly have to be worms either. If it is skinny and not eating, and/or lethargic you might want to take it to the vet.

Thanks for everyone's input - he hasn't really lost weight since I got him a month ago and he came from a very clean reputable breeder - but I will micro his feces for parasites to be sure. He accepted half a syringe-ful of chicken baby food with liquid calcium and eletrolytes last night, I'm hoping that will jump start him.
