Venus Fly Trap with Frogs??

frogboy1979 Nov 06, 2004 08:59 PM

I am currently in the process of making a live vivarium and want to include a venus fly trap plant. Along with a few select frogs that I have chosen too. Is it safe to put the two together or would the frog get eaten by the plant? Has anyone ever seen or heard of this happening with negative effects? Or can the two survive in the habitat together? Any info is appreciated. Thanx

It's never a good idea to mix different frogs/amphibians together

Venus fly traps require a cool dormant period in the winter. They can be kept with frogs but will need to be removed for a few months of the year to be put through this dormant period. They pose little risk to the frogs, particularily if you are keeping a larger species of frog.

Biggest risk is to the flytrap. I could get trampled, but there is another problem. If you feed medium to large insects, they could be entraped by the plant. Sounds beneficial, but if a trap ensnares an insect that is too large to quickly digest, it dies. I have personally seen this happen.
