Mike,
I saw your pics the other day and there is no way to tell their identity if you live in an area that has more than one variation of coluber constrictor. I myself have never came up with anything in the houston area other than coluber constrictor flaviventris-a.k.a the eastern yellow bellied racer, so any racer that I would catch there would be assumed to be C.c.flaviventris.Once you get into the eastern part towards Louisiana you start to find butter milks, tans and the black masked further east in Louisiana.I was told by a herpetologist at the houston zoo years ago that there is a population of buttermilks @lake livingston tx.I have one captive E.yellow bellied wild caught here in san leon, Texas--@15 miles from Galveston that is hammering a dozen crickets a week. Also north texas has the southern black racer and south texas has the mexican racer, but almost all areas east and north have the e. yellow bellied. Interesting note:The blue racer is now considered to be just another color morph the eastern yellow-bellied racer bellied racer---- good luck!!!

If you are saying that the buttermilk pop. in Livigston is isolated; then either it extends all the way to Lake Conroe, or there is another population in this area. I have caught a many buttermilks, of both the light and dark color phases(mostly dark). But now that I think about it, I only catch them near the lake, and hear of people seeing them but they are always withen a few miles of the lake. I wonder if they are isolated. If anyone knows for sure I would like to know.
