Feeding Questions?

pdiddy101 Nov 06, 2004 11:23 PM

My 8 month old ball has not eaten in about 3 weeks. How long will a female go off the feed in the winter? When should i start to worry about force feeding.

Three weeks is no where near long enough to constitute force feeding.Three to five months can almost be considered normal for a Ball Python.

Stress is the leading cause in most cases, and forcing them will create stress in itself. However dont rule out other possible reasons, such as temps, etc.

I had a LTC snake go 8 months before it took its first meal. Don't worry too much! It's part of the fun (stress) of keeping ball pythons.

I guess during the off-feed period they lose weight. What is considered a "safe" amount to lose? I have a young one that was 196 grams and has dropped to 187. The local "expert" says she still looks at a healthy weight. Just curious if it is an amount or just looking at snake to see getting slim?
