feeding Question

ghengistahn Nov 07, 2004 12:09 AM

hey guys i have a question.. i have 5 balls 1 male pastel and 4 females.. anyways i am in process of switching them over to frozen thawed.. i have a question though.. three of my balls switched over relatively easy(they are eating frozen thawed once a week).. but i have a problem with two,... one only eats a frozen thawed once every two weeks.. eats about 3-4 rat pups at a time and wont eat a frozen thawed weaned rat.. so my question is how do i get her to eat every week.. she seems to eat frozen thawed only when she is really hungry(im assuming becuz she wont eat the first week) but if i place a live she will eat it right away(the first two weeks i had her i fed her live)..

and my second problem child has not eaten a frozen thawed... but seeing that my other oone will eat only every two weeks im trying to see if not feeding (well offering but she doesnt take) her will get her to eat frozen thawed in the longer run.. but i would really like for them not to eat live anymore.. all of the ones i have recieved have switched over no problem its just these two females that i purchased about two months ago..

The big question is it safe for me not to feed my ball?? becuz she wont eat frozen thawed..(its been 3 and half weeks since she last ate) or should i just go back to my their old feeding habits and feed them once a week with live??? or do you guys have any other good ideas about switching them over?? i cant get any live weaned rats any time soon.. and i am against killing them myself..(but will if i have too).. anywhoo all of your response will be greatly appreciated..

thanks eitan

I was in the same boat with one of my females last month (after being shipped). I didn't want to feed her live, but I had no choice because she was loosing to much weight. But I just got her on f/t this week, a month after feeding her live. You just have to have patience, some bp's are easy to switch over and others are a pain. Keep feeding live and try the f/t once in awhile (make sure its warm enough 95). Good Luck!
