babyten Nov 07, 2004 10:12 AM

i have a african sideneck turtle and i want another turtle. i have seen pictures of the mississippi map turtle and i was wondering if any one has info on them or knows of another species that would be cool and different than my sideneck, even though i love him to pieces and would never get ride of him! i would appreciate anything!! thanks!

Main problem with miss. maps is that the females get huge. You'd have to have a large in-ground pond for one, or get a male. The males ae quite small. Care is basically the same as most basking turtles like RES, except they need a very high water quality and are more prone to fungus. Housing would be different than your sideneck.

thanks for the info. i really like the coloring on the mississppi map turtle. my first turtle, whom i love dearly!, was bought a petsmart on an impulse, but i am happy that i did because i wouldn't have been exposed to this great animal if i hadn't! TURTLES ROCK!!
