Its horrible when the feeders become cute....

Usually I don't do this, but I finally broke down and chose myself a new pet rat out of one of my litters who has the perfect temperment and fawn markings. I've been lucky I guess... having had only one other pet rat out of all of them. Toby.. and he died in our move out to Ohio in 2002. This one's name is Merlin and he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He'll be just a pet... not even a breeder... *shakes head* He caught my attention by climbing up my arm when I was feeding and deciding he liked playing in my hair. The others aren't hand tamed though aren't agressive either...he just did it himself.. Now how can you put a rat like that in the freezer? *L* I can't so he'll be my new buddy to sit on my shoulder while I'm online. I miss Toby as much as I miss Rhya..my Afcan Rock Python... Wish I had the space and everything to accomodate anther.

I had the same thing happen quite a few years ago when I brought home a rat to feed my python. This was before I switched to prekilled. I opened the box to a cute little black and white rat who immediatly crawled into my hand. Well that was it I was attached . Had him for 3 1/2 years untill he died of what I expect was cancer.

I always see what neat patterns come out of litters, i find the cute ones for breeders but i can still feed/freeze them with no problem. Im raising three siamese ones whos father is blk and white and i got a soild blk female out of it all, shocked me,but can't wait for the litters from these to be about.
I also had a georgous copper and wht momma mouse that gave birth for the third time to duds, so i hated to throw her in the feeder tank, but had to, she was pretty but wasn't producing anything i could use.
