What should I do? (long)

duckofdomination Nov 07, 2004 03:03 PM

I was at a pet store earlier today and noticed that they had leos. I was looking in the cage and noticed that one of the leos didnt look healthy. He/she's skin was wrinkley, And its spinal cord was sticking out (it wasnt breaking the skin, But it was raised up really far and you could see all of the vertebres) And his neck was crooked and he was really skinny. I asked the guy if he was sick and the guy (knowing that I was a kid) told me that he was very healthy. I knew he was lieing and I was going to ask him if I could take it home to try to nurse it back to health but I didnt have the guts. I was wondering if there was anything I could do? All of the pets there are mis-treated, The cages are clean but they hold WAY too many animals in them (ex.) They had about 10 birds in a cage that looked like it was about 2'x 2' I also noticed that they keep two prairi (sp?) dogs in a 10 gallon aquairium. I feel sooooo bad for the animals in there and It made me just want to smack the guy right in the face. I decided that I wanted to report the store for animal cruelty but I dont know how, And I dont even know if there are any laws against that in my state (CT). Thanks for reading this, I really needed to vent. Sorry for the long post.

Prairie dogs? are you sure...the sale of priarie dogs was outlawed almost everywhere because people were getting sick from them. You could report them to the better business bureau (look in the yellow pages), the local ASPCA (yellow pages), the wildlife services or the local police. I would think the police would be interested in those prairie dogs. Do NOT buy the leo, they will replace it with another one they will kill as well. It may be too far gone anyway. Good luck & keep us posted!

I agree with Ro, Do not buy anything it will only support them.

Report them to the SPCA, and tell all your friends and family to NOT go to the store, word of mouth can really kill a business.

Also don't even bother talking to them, you will only be treated rudely and you don't deserve that cuz you're only trying to help.

Kids often have much more sense than adults do
