bairds ratsnakes a must have for me

pharoh08 Nov 07, 2004 04:14 PM

okay i've been looking for a new snake, and man have these guys caught my eye, i've got most of the basics for them, just a few last minute questions

#1 are these guys common enough that i will be able to find them at a reptile show(200 vendors, you can see their names at www.pythons.com/hamburg)

#2 will a 55g be big enough for one even once they are a adult, it'll have lots of branches for it to play on.

#3 is it charastic for males not be finchy eaters, cause i have read a few post on here about males being finchy eaters.

#4 is probabing the only way to tell the sex with them(or similar methods), and i've never been to a show before, will the breeders have the snakes marked as male or female?

i think thats it for now, thanx for any responces

I would think that with that many vendors the chances are pretty good that you will find someone selling Bairds rat snakes.
If not, come back on here and we will point you in the right direction.

Yes, a 55 gallon will be plenty big enough. I have a 55 gallon separated in the center and have my male baird on one side and the female on the other

I can only go by my two and the reports I have seen from most bairds owners. They are usually very hardy snakes and eat like a charm. My pair rarely even rfuse food when in the blue.
About the only time they have ever refused was if they were in the "deep blue" with eyes clouded over.

They should be marked male or female at the show. If not ask the vendor. The vendor may have just forgot to list it on the container.
