I don't know about the other two, but I believe acrylic latex paints are believed to be about safe as paints get.
But if the paint you'll be using is water soluable it will leach into water if it's exposed to it. I'd seal it with something more durable if it will be for a waterfall, pool, or will be a surface of the cage exposed to a misting system.
That link looks interesting. I bookmarked it and plan to read about it more later.

Current snakes:
1.1 Gonyosoma oxycephala - (Silver/Yellow)
3.4 Gonyosoma oxycephala - (Green)
2.1 Gonyosoma janseni - (Black)
what sealant would you suggest that would be both durable and not ruin the look of the paint?

For a waterfall area or a wall that will receive a lot of direct moisture a two-part epoxy is what I'd use.
What species will this be for? Is is a waterfall area or just a cage wall?

i wanted to do the whole cage with scenery made from foam and painted waterfall and walls.
chris, did you get a chance to read that website that you bookarked? its very interesting and you would get a great idea of what i am trying to do.
it would be for a wide range of species.
how clear is that two part epoxy sealant? i know there are different types, but is there an "invisible" drying type?
i just want something that could hold up and look very well. i would like to get into cage building and sell a few. im just in the research part now, trying to learn all i can. there isnt exactly a school you can go to to learn this stuff. i appreciate all the knowlege i have gained from this site and all of you incredibly helpful people.
I have not read the site in full. Will try to do that tomorrow AM.
You can get epoxies that are clear and not shiny. I'm not sure what the best product would be, however.
