Adjusting to different food?

Bezzerra Jun 30, 2003 10:23 AM

I was giving my beardie a staple of Kale for veggies, however, I read that this should only be given once or so a week because of the high Vitamin A in it. So this weekend, I bought some escrole and endive and gave her the escrole. It gave her diarrhea and I was wondering if I should keep giving her the escrole to see if she will get used to it. If not, should I give her the endive and see how her stomach reacts to it or is it too soon to switch veggies again?

Give her a variety of greens and veggies. Dandalion, collard, mustard, escarole are all good staples, but should be mixed with other greens and veggies to give a wide variety of nutrients. Squash is great to put on top of the salad, sweet potato, green beens. Just give more of a choice rather then sio much of one. I think that will help her stomach handle them.

that I was giving her speggetti squash, mango, blueberries, blackberries and sweet potatoe on top of her staple greens. The only thing I changed was her staple vegitable (from kale to escrole) so I thought this was what made her tummy upset. (Didn't mention the other stuff because of that)

So just keep giving her the escrole?

A lot of berries can do it too, but sure it is possible that one green being the escarole does not agree with her. The only thing I can think to suggest to you would to give more varied greens then veggies. The greens should make up at least 75% of the serving being dark leafy greens not just one staple, but a mix of them. The veggies on top treat as a garnish or an extra tasty treat. Just mix it up daily so not to give to much of one. I personally use collard and dandalion greens as my staples and add another varied green to them, plus varied veggies daily. Keep it mixed up for them. If you think it's the escorole cut back on that one and add more of the other greens. If the loose stools continue I suggest taking a sample to a vet because it is one of the signs of parasites. Keep her well hydrated while her stomach is upset. Good Luck hope it passes without much of a problem.
